World Record: Buttler Grabs 122m High Catch

Hyderabad, February 12, 2026 – England's star wicketkeeper-batter Jos Buttler has etched his name into cricket history by pulling off what appears to be the highest-ever catch of a cricket ball, from an astonishing 122 meters (approximately 400 feet or the height of a 40-story building). The jaw-dropping feat took place in Cape Town, South Africa, near Newlands Stadium, and was captured for Kevin Pietersen's popular YouTube series The Switch.

Dressed in full wicketkeeping gear, the 35-year-old Buttler tracked a cricket ball dropped from a drone hovering high above the ground. The challenge built progressively, starting from lower heights like 50 meters before reaching the record-breaking 122 meters. After a couple of near-misses, Buttler timed his movement perfectly, securing the ball cleanly despite challenging wind currents and the tiny, dot-like appearance of the falling object at such altitude.

At that height, the ball reaches terminal velocity, hitting the ground (or gloves) with significant force—making the catch a true test of reflexes, vision, and courage. Buttler celebrated exuberantly, hugging his former England teammate and host Kevin Pietersen, who praised the effort and quoted Buttler confidently claiming he could even attempt catches from 170 or 190 meters.

The previous Guinness World Record stood at 119.86 meters (393 feet 2.897 inches), set by Australian Thimothy Shanon Jebaseelan in Sydney on November 19, 2021. Buttler's 122-meter grab surpasses that mark, though official Guinness verification is still pending based on video evidence and measurements.

This stunt comes shortly after Buttler captained England in the T20 World Cup 2026, showcasing his razor-sharp skills even off the international field. As a key player for Gujarat Titans in the IPL and a proven big-match performer, Buttler's reflexes continue to impress fans worldwide.
