Guwahati, April 10, 2026 — The Indian Premier League continues to witness the birth of a new superstar as 15-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi delivered a breathtaking performance, smashing 78 runs off just 26 balls to guide Rajasthan Royals (RR) to a commanding six-wicket victory over Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the 16th match of IPL 2026.
Playing at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati, Rajasthan Royals successfully chased down a challenging target of 202 with two overs to spare, remaining unbeaten in the tournament so far.
Suryavanshi's Fireworks Light Up Guwahati
The Bihar-born teenager walked in early and unleashed pure carnage on the RCB bowling attack. Suryavanshi hammered eight fours and seven sixes, reaching his fifty in just 15 balls — one of the fastest in IPL history. His blistering knock formed a crucial 108-run partnership with wicket-keeper batter Dhruv Jurel, who remained unbeaten on a superb 81 off 43 balls.
Suryavanshi’s strike rate touched a mind-boggling 300, leaving even the most experienced bowlers clueless. He fell for 78 but had already done enough damage, helping RR race to 97/1 in the powerplay — a new IPL record for the highest score in the first six overs of a chase.
The young sensation was adjudged Player of the Match for his match-defining innings.
RCB’s Fighting Total Falls Short
Earlier, RCB posted a competitive 201/8 in 20 overs. Captain Rajat Patidar top-scored with a well-made 63, while other batters contributed to push the total past 200. However, RR’s bowlers, led by Jofra Archer and Ravi Bishnoi, kept things tight in the middle overs before the batting fireworks took over.
Praise from Cricket Legends
Suryavanshi’s explosive form has left cricket icons in awe. Former India captain Virender Sehwag said the sky is the limit for the youngster, praising his fearless approach against senior bowlers. Legendary spinner Ravi Ashwin affectionately called him “Vaiball Suryavanshi”, highlighting his extraordinary talent at such a young age.
With this knock, the 15-year-old has raced to the top of the Orange Cap leaderboard with 200 runs at a staggering strike rate of 266 in the ongoing season.
What This Means for Young Indian Talent
For millions of cricket-loving Indians and the global NRI community, Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s rise is a heartwarming story of raw talent emerging from small-town India. Hailing from Bihar, the teenager has already captained India U19 to glory and is now lighting up the biggest T20 league in the world.
His success sends a powerful message to young aspiring cricketers across India and among the diaspora — with hard work and fearlessness, dreams can be achieved at any age.
Rajasthan Royals’ fourth consecutive win strengthens their position at the top of the IPL 2026 table, while RCB will look to bounce back in their upcoming fixtures.
